When we are invited into another person’s story, it opens us up to their journey, heart, and experiences. In the process, we walk with them and become a part of their narrative, which deepens our connections. In essence, we see them as God’s Beloved. The Christian journey was never meant to be done alone. Without others walking with us, we struggle. It doesn’t matter what age we are, we all need each other. The following is a story of the mentorship between Helena Mulville and her Refuge leader, Michelle Horgan.

Michelle: “Getting to know Helena has made me realize that age is just a number. Having meaningful conversation and relationships with an amazing girl is so life-giving for me. It feels so rewarding to be able to be a listening friend who’s not a parent and to be able to impart wisdom that I’ve learned over the years. She inspires and reminds me to be vulnerable and to perseverance with a positive attitude in tough situations. She is wise beyond her years!”

Helena: “Michelle told a story once about how God saved her by moving her to Orange County. I believe that He saved us both. Michelle has had such an impact on my life, ever since the moment I met her. I know that God sent her to me because she is truly a saint. She is so supportive of not only me but all the other girls in the group and would do anything for any of us. Whenever I need to talk to someone or if I have any questions or doubts, Michelle is always there and always knows best. She has taught me to keep an open mind and to always stay true to myself even when life gets hard. She is truly a blessing to this world and I don’t know what I would be without her.”
