Important Announcement from Cody Jensen

May 22, 2018 1 Comment Share

We wanted to share with you that Cody Jensen, our Minister of Student Ministries, let us know that after a season of prayer and discernment, he has decided to conclude his ministry at St. Andrew’s.

He shared in his letter to us, “After a season of prayer and discernment and with a blend of sadness, gratitude, and anticipation; I am writing to let you know that Roz and I both feel confirmed by God that it is time to step away from vocational ministry.”

Cody went on to express his thanks to the congregation, students, and volunteers that have made his work so rewarding and the decision so difficult:

“For the past six years; I’ve had the honor, gift, and privilege serving as the Director of High School Ministries and for the last year and half, as the Minister of Student Ministries. During my time here, I’ve been able to minister to families and students, in both joyful and difficult seasons. There have been moments of laughter, celebration, excitement, heartache, sadness, stress, and of course, complete and utter nonsense in the best ways possible. I’ve watched students enter our ministry as seventh graders, seen them grow and mature in their faith, and am now seeing many of these same students graduate college and enter the workforce. Some of those very students are back in the area working and now serve in the high school ministry. It has been a beautiful cycle to witness.

Walking alongside any staff member is a team of volunteers who are the ministry’s hands and feet. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to walk alongside some of the most fantastic, Jesus-driven servants I’ve ever met. These volunteers have given their time to go on trips, show up each and every Monday night loving and connecting with students, spending time at plays, sports games, sharing meals, and of course, having coffee together (preferably at Peet’s). Over the past year, Refuge has become a place of intergenerational ministry, where older individuals from our congregation have stepped out in faith and led by the Holy Spirit, have begun to serve our students. They have done this with love, courage, and perseverance. I am so grateful for them.

I want thank you, the congregation, for the encouragement and support you have shown Roz and our family these past six years. Thank you for allowing me to use my gifts and to grow. I’m not the same man I was when I started here and you have played a significant role in that. I am confident, with Chap at the helm and with those leading the charge, that the “Good Ship” St. Andrew’s has its best days ahead.

Lastly, I want to thank the students of St. Andrew’s, both past and present, for giving me the gift of walking alongside you. You have encouraged me in my faith journey and I often looked to you for wisdom and guidance. You are some of the most amazing men and women I have met in my life and I love you all dearly. Thank you for encouraging us and loving our kids. Always remember you are God’s beloved sons and daughters. You are not the future church. You are the present church.”

Cody let us know that he plans to stay throughout the summer months to help facilitate the leadership transition. While we will miss him dearly as a colleague; we pray God’s best for Cody, Roz, Caden, and Brynn as they follow Christ’s leading. Please join us in praying for them as they anticipate this new season as a family.

Many blessings!
