On March 17, we kicked off our first Super Saturday of 2018 with a fun St. Patrick’s Day dinner and celebration. St. Andrew’s members gathered together to enjoy a fun and meaningful night with the men and boys of Teen Challenge. The food team made an incredible meal of Irish stew, homemade soda bread, coleslaw, and a table of desserts, all prepared by members of our congregation. After eating, the over 100 Teen Challenge and St. Andrew’s members joined in fellowship by playing games, laughing together, taking crazy photos at the St. Patrick’s Day photo booth, and listening to one another’s stories. This all-generations event was a win for young and old alike. From Yahtzee and foosball, to “Shuffle your Buns” (a modified version of musical chairs), the fun carried through the entire evening.
The purpose of Super Saturday is to rally around the men and boys of Teen Challenge, by truly being the church to them. Those within Teen Challenge join us while in an intensive recovery program. Super Saturday provides a welcoming and fun environment where they get to relax, enjoy a meal, play games and feel the love and support of Christian community. Many who graduate from Teen Challenge have stated that Super Saturday at St. Andrew’s was their favorite night of each month! Our theme verse for Super Saturday is Hebrews 10:24, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”
Super Saturday happens every third Saturday of the month (March – October), immediately following the 5:00 p.m. service. If you’re looking for a way to build community at St. Andrew’s and have a heart to invest in and encourage those in Teen Challenge, we invite you to join us! You can simply attend or you can dive deeper by helping with the food team, leading a game table, or by bringing a dessert. The next Super Saturday will take place on April 21. We can’t wait to see you there.
