“Then Esau said, ‘Let us journey on our way, and I will go alongside you.’” Genesis 33:12 (NRSV)

Rev. Tod Bolsinger, pastor of San Clemente Presbyterian church, writes about the ways that we ‘live Christ’ in our daily lives.  Where do we risk?  Where do we choose to bring Christ’s holiness into the journey of everyday? Does Christ join us and go alongside us as we traverse the daily?

Tod writes that, “whether it is risky asking to dinner a Zacchaeus or a stranger we met on the road, we trust that Christ will reveal himself in the breaking of bread (Luke 24) in whatever conversation, business transaction, leisurely gathering, reunion of friends, or reconciliation of differences.”

Whether it be a kitchen table where a friend shares a burden over coffee, a boardroom table where a company’s strategic plans are confirmed, or a courtroom table where justice is sought, to the Christian these tables can become “COMMUNION TABLES” where Jesus’ own inclusive love is offered.

Our responsibility is to have the mindset of a servant, representing Christ, who is always, though often unacknowledged, the host of the gathering and the one inviting every person into the life-transforming communion.

“…let each of you lead the life that the Lord has assigned, to which God called you. This is my [Paul’s] rule in all the churches.” 1 Corinthians 7:17

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, you desire to walk with me along my way.  Help me to welcome you and embrace the opportunities that I have to allow your holiness to transform the tables in my life: my kitchen table interactions…the boardroom conference table…the justice at the courtroom table, may your inclusive love be offered on a daily basis.  Amen.

Choose to welcome Christ and say, ‘I will go alongside you today.’
