I was at the 9 o’clock service today and I gleaned that there are many changes coming to St Andrew’s. I have no right to comment because I am not a member, but a frequent visitor. I just wanted to say I hope the traditional service does not go away. I love St Andrew’s for the beauty and the majesty of this service. The church itself is so beautiful and the music is unparalleled. It is very difficult to find traditional churches today. I realize you have to revamp and be progressive to build your attendance, but please don’t go to all praise music and torn denim
I agree with the comment made above about the beauty of the Traditional Service being the most important service St Andrew’s to retain. I have a real frustration with the Traditional Service not being offered at the later 10:30 or 11 am time because I cannot get to the church at the 9am service because of being handicapped. I used to attend the 11am Traditional Service in the past with the organ and Hymns of the Faith. Those Traditional Hymns are full of solid theology, unlike the more contemporary praise songs which tend to contain more repetitive refrains and less solid theology, Don’t get me wrong…praise music has its place and I don’t even mind having a praise son mixed into the Traditional Service, but I’m craving the music with the organ, orchestra, and choir which we need in these desperate times! It’s as if businessmen and young people are running the session and crowding out us older folks (who, by the way) have been the main supporters of the church. Please place more emphasis on an additional Traditional Service at 10:30 or 11am service for us… there are more than enough Contemporary Services to your church programs. May The Lord guide your decisions in these matters.
I must agree with the above remarks. A few years ago my 42 yr old daughter who lives out of state and was raised here at St Andrews attended Christmas Eve service with her family. During the service she leaned over to me and commented, “Mom, is St Andrews trying to be like Mariners or Saddleback?”…….I have remembered that.
