Thank You Whittier Volunteers!

June 17, 2015 1 Comment Share

On June 7, we gathered for a luncheon to honor and thank our St. Andrew’s Literacy Team “SALT” and Serve Day Leaders with our community partnership with Whittier Elementary School. Attending to show their appreciation were Dr Fred Navarro, Superintendent of the Newport Mesa Unified School District, Principal Scott Wilcox, and several Whittier teachers, including Sarah Cook, recently selected as NMUSD’s Teacher of the Year. The event started with a video from the Whittier staff that conveyed the importance of St. Andrew’s literacy support, and their appreciation to the SALT volunteers.

Through our weekly literacy classroom support, campus beautification serve days, library remodel support, and teacher appreciation and other school events, Whittier Elementary School has truly become a part of St. Andrew’s adopted family. Dan Wendell, Minister of Send Ministries also advised the attendees, that’s Whittier Elementary was among the beneficiaries of the recent Rummage Sale.

Recently Pam Gargan lead the WATCH program’s donation of over 100 books to the Whittier Elementary library. Following that example, some of the children of our Whittier volunteers presented a gift of books to Principal Scott Wilcox. In fact 50 new books are being donated to the Whittier library, in the name of our St. Andrew’s volunteer leaders. The volunteer attendees each signed a donation label that will be inserted into each book.
