At the outset of his ministry, Jesus proclaimed “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the gospel (often translated ‘good news’!” (Mark 1:15) The word, “Gospel,” is commonplace, but what makes its English equivalent, “Good news,” good news? Arrival and nearness are the themes that Jesus proclaims, announcing that God has come to reign. In Jesus, good news, the best possible news, has arrived and is near. For this series, we will explore what makes the gospel “good news,” and what that means not only for us but for the whole world.
